Following three months of dedicated palace watch duty, the gates of Aghọfen opened today to welcome Utonlila community, who today assume their watch duties for the final quarter of the year as Bobi community successfully bows out.

Today marked the 19th edition of Ghighó Aghọfen, the change-of-palace-guard ceremony instituted by His Majesty Ogiamẹ Atuwatsé III, CFR, the Olu of Warri, as part of the enduring traditions that strengthen the bond between the throne and the communities of the kingdom.

Following their colourful entrance into the palace, Utonlila entertained His Majesty and distinguished guests with beautifully curated traditional dances, showcasing the rich cultural heritage and traditions that have been passed down through generations. The vibrant performances were followed by presentations from groups of other tribes resident in Warri further adding colour and grandeur to the ceremony, while also providing a fitting reminder of the enduring cultural warmth of the Iwẹrẹ people.

The event concluded with a message from the throne, delivered by Òjòyè Mene Brown, the Ogwaolusan of Warri, on behalf of His Majesty.

In his message, His Majesty expressed his appreciation to Bobi community for a successful watch period, particularly noting the significance of their tenure as the community which was on palace duty during the recently concluded 5th Coronation Anniversary celebrations. His Majesty then warmly welcomed Utonlila community, expressing appreciation for their impressive turnout and commitment to the responsibility entrusted to them. His Majesty prays that their period of watch would be marked by peace, blessings, unity, prosperity and remarkable progress, both for the community and for all its sons and daughters.
