As the sun burst over Aghofen, the air reverberated with the beats of the Iye Ogume, Oton Ogun, Okiri, Pokiri, Agba, and Oma drums, heralding the arrival of the Ekurede Community. The Ghigho Aghofen ‘Palace Watch’ ceremonies had begun, and the palace grounds transformed into a kaleidoscope of color and sound.
Ekurede Community, resplendent in vibrant green and white attire, unleashed a whirlwind of energy, their feet pounding out the rhythms of their ancestors. Each step wove a living narrative of tradition and identity.

As the outgoing Ugboegungun Community relinquished their watch duty, Ekurede received the sacred flag with pride. His Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III, through his words delivered by Ojoye Brown Mene, the Ogwaolusan of Warri, extolled unity and harmony, sending a message of peace across the land.
This vibrant display of heritage sent ripples through the sociocultural landscape of the Warri Kingdom. People from diverse horizons—Yorubas, Ilajes, Igalas, Igbos, and more—converged to witness the spectacle. The quarterly celebration has become a powerful testament to the kingdom’s rich tapestry.

In this moment, His Majesty reaffirmed the Warri Kingdom’s commitment to preserving its heritage while embracing its diversity. Ghigho Aghofen stands as a beacon, illuminating the path forward, paved with the rhythms of tradition, the vibrancy of community, and the beauty of cultural expression.
