On March 29, 2026, Warri Kingdom once again erupted in colour, rhythm, and joyful ceremony as the Ugbolokposo Community made their grand entrance into Aghofen for the quarterly Ghigho Aghofen palace watch, formally receiving the mantle of custodianship from the outgoing Olobe Community. From the moment Ugbolokposo arrived, there was no mistaking the energy they brought, bodies swaying with grace and precision to the pulse of melodic harmony.
True to cherished custom, the transition was not without its theatre. In the beloved dance drama that has become one of the most anticipated highlights of every Aghofen handover, both communities engaged in the playful yet spirited tussle for the right to remain within the palace grounds, a dramatic and colourful tradition in which the incoming community, as is always the case, ultimately prevails. Ugbolokposo claimed their victory with flair, and the grounds of the palace reverberated with celebration as they were officially welcomed into their quarter of service.
Leading Ugbolokposo Community into Aghofen were two distinguished chiefs, Ojoye Francis Omatseye, the Udefi of Warri (Obaloye), and Ojoye Prest Udueyin, the Akwinotsokan of Warri (Adobodoji), who with an array of Ukweke led the procession of the proud sons and daughters of Ugbolokposo.
Adding further richness to the occasion were the vibrant presentations from the diverse communities who call Warri home. The Igbo, Ilaje, and Yoruba communities, among others, each led by their respective Ambassage Chiefs along with their distinguished guests who turned out in impressive style to add their own colour and goodwill to the ceremony. Their participation was a heartwarming reflection of the inclusive and cosmopolitan spirit of Warri Kingdom.
His Majesty, Ogiame Atuwatse III, warmly welcomes Ugbolokposo Community on the commencement of their watch and extends his royal blessings to everyone who honoured the palace with their presence on that day.
